Obituary for Gordon Murray Langille

Gordon Murray Langille, Oct. 6, 1946 – June 16, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Murray Langille on June 16, 2014. Gord was a vibrant and healthy man when he was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and he faced the progression of the disease with his signature no-nonsense attitude.

Gord was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on October 6, 1946 and spent the early years of his life in Nova Scotia prior to moving to Toronto to study to be an electrician, where he was recruited by TransCanada PipeLines. He was dedicated to his work at TransCanada, spending 38 years there, working first on the pipeline and then in power generation, helping to grow that part of the business. Gord was also passionate about his hobbies of woodworking, gardening and bird-watching, and made a lot of wonderful friends through these pursuits.

Gord wanted not to be mourned in his death but, rather, remembered for the good times. As such, no funeral will be held. Details regarding a memorial for Gord will be shared with friends and family shortly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket, where Gord received excellent care throughout his illness. His family would like to thank everyone involved in his treatment, both at Southlake and at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. We are especially grateful for the loving support from Dr. Arnell Baguio and all the wonderful nurses in the Palliative Care ward at Southlake.

We will be having a “Celebration of Life” for Gord Langille on Thursday, July 10 at Madsen's Gardens located at 160 Bayview Parkway in Newmarket, Ontario. It will be an informal gathering from 4-9 p.m. with no formal speeches planned.

This will be an opportunity for family and friends to get together to reminisce about Dad and share fond memories. Please spread the word and plan to bring your pictures and stories as we remember Gord as our beloved partner and father, and as the friend and mentor that he was to so many people.
