I was shocked to hear of Glenda's passing. I hadn't seen her in years. We had bumped into one another downtown Toronto quite a few years back. It was great seeing her as she was a childhood friend of mine. I had lived around the corner from her on Adam Street in Chateauguay. I too have wonderful memories of Glenda and her infectious smile. My condolences go out to Glenda's husband and her family. Although it has been 26 + years since we even seen each other back at Howard S. Billings...it still hurts to hear that one of your friends has passed away. Even though she is gone it comforts me knowing that she is in place where she is suffering no more. It's Friday February 3rd on the 6th floor of the Southlake Medical Centre when Lynne and I get the okay for a road trip with Glenda. To let you know a road trip is a wheelchair tour of the Centre's more interesting ground floor locations. Ray and the Nurses get Glenda up into the chair and we're off. After our second lap of the 6th floor we're passing the Nursing Station and one of the Nurses asks Glenda how its going. With a typical Glenda smile she tells the Nurse "we're going to find some action". Now on the first floor we're passing the cafe where we see Ray having a much needed break from the 6th floor. And again the typical Glenda smile and a wave to Ray and we continue to the front entrance for some fresher air and some people watching. While chatting about nothing in particular and watching people coming and going, Glenda hears a Southlake Volunteer talking to an elderly man just beside us. "They're trying to help this poor man find where he parked his car" she tells us with a look of slight concern and a laugh. As the humour of the situation was not lost on her either. After a while the Volunteer and the man set off to find his car and Glenda turns to us, still concerned for the man and says "will he be okay?" The look in her eyes and her words suggested nothing other than her compassion for people, especially elderly gentlemen, was as strong has it ever once was.
