Obituary for Mervin Angus McNair

MERVIN (MAC) McNAIR
January 11, 1921 – March 4, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mac McNair on Saturday, March 4th in his 97th year. Mac was the life of any gathering and his winning humour, charisma and quick wit will be sorely missed, especially by Madge (nee Hipkiss) his dear wife of almost 73 years. He will also be sadly missed by his three children: Donna Oliver (Mike), Jim (Lorraine) and Bob; his grandchildren Sharla (Adam Lem) and Lee (Stephanie); and his great-grandchildren Cole and Mason McNair-Lem. Mac was the son of Christina and John McNair last of Neepawa, Manitoba and was predeceased by siblings Douglas, Marjorie (Werry) and Gladys (Sawyers).

Raised in Swan River, Manitoba, Mac came east to serve his country as a pilot with the RCAF in 1942. He met Madge and never returned to Manitoba. He enjoyed a long career working in the commodities market finishing up as Toronto Office Manager at James Richardson & Sons. Mac lived a very full life and took great pleasure in golf, gardening, boating, cards, singing, travelling, reading and social occasions with family and many good friends.

As per his request, cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at North York General Hospital for their understanding, compassion and exceptional care. Also to the staff of The Roxborough in Newmarkat and Sunrise at Thornhill for their loving care.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”

-Thomas Campbell
