I just learned of Johns passing and I would like to express my sincere condolences from the Boyd family

Ian and I were in cubs and I remember John taking us around to sell our apples in the woody station wagon. John apparently had arranged to source and deliver the apples to the clubhouse.
John would engage us children in conversation and made us participate with each other.
A great positive force in our world will be missed.

I met John Chappell about 17 years ago when I became a member of the Toronto Society of Model Engineers. I got to know John over the years and was always impressed by his enthusiasm for model engineering and dedication to the club. Once I learned a bit about John’s background, I came to realize that he was the same white-haired guy that used to set up my physics labs when I was at University of Toronto in the mid-70s. What a coincidence. My favourite story about John was when I found him standing at a bus stop on a mid-winter Friday evening at about 11 pm after one of the club meetings. It was well below zero and I was concerned about him being in the cold. I asked him where he lived and was amazed when he told me that he was going to be taking the bus, then the subway and then a GO bus to get home to Newmarket. There was no way that I was going to let him do this by himself on such a cold night, so I insisted that I drive him home even though I live in Toronto. Although it was very much out of my way, it was the right thing to do and John and I had a wonderful talk on the ride to Newmarket. John will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

So very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. Not too long ago I drove by the house and did wonder how everyone was!! I am thinking about all of you during this time. Your Mom and Dad were great friends to my Mom and Dad. Always had a special place in all of our hearts! Take care,

I visited John the other day and some point in our largely one-sided conversation triggered him to announce "I don't do too much thinking anymore". Well, if any brain is deserving of a rest it's John's. A wizard and a charm he was! I'll never forget him cheerily arriving at our annual Haskett Park clean-up with a stick and nail attached. Quickly it was evident that though he could no longer bend he had devised a way to help out. An inspiring soul that I shall bring to mind whenever I need a boost. Full-steam ahead to you John Chappell.
